Mission Report of Garry L. Hill, M.A., M.Min.
Missionary/Bible Historian
This year under the oversight of the South Bypass Church
of Christ elders I became Coordinator of West African Missions for the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver
I traveled to Dallas and meet with the extension staff in October and to Denver
to meet with the Bear Valley Elders in November. My work was approved and the starting of an Bear Valley extension was approved
by the elders. The first school we will work with as Coordinator is in
Takoradi, Ghana.
This is a port city located on the southern coast
of Ghana, the fourth largest in the country. The school is called the West Coast School of Preaching. There are already
21 students and 6 local native teachers. They have a dorm and a fine library. Daniel Ampadu-Asiamah serves as principle of
the school, a man of great character and highly respected in the country.
I
will serve as coordinator of the school. My responsibility will involve overseeing, keeping in constant contact and raising
funds for these schools. I will be creating curriculum for the classes and intend to teach myself many of them. I also will
be responsible to recruit and schedule short term teachers. We have four quarters a year and the last two weeks of every quarter
we will teach four short courses for the students.
In
March of 2009 we will be traveling to Ghana with David Hamrick, Director of Extension Studies to set up the school
and travel to two more places in the country to see about the feasibility of other schools. One of these places is in Tamale
where an American missionary is working
Needs: The Howe congregation in Howe,
Texas is willing to be the sponsoring congregation for the school itself. The Burleson Church of Christ in Hamilton Alabama
is also a contributer. At this present time to feed and house the students we need an estimated $1000 a month. Many dedicated
individuals are already helping. That contribution should besent to the Howe Church in Texas
Future plans. I will be going to Ghana at least three times this year for
around a month at a time, as well as teaching in other of our schools around the world. I will also be traveling to Howe Texas
and Burleson church in Hamilton Alabama this winter to speak to those congregations about the school, since they are the main
contributors. This summer and fall I will be bringing teachers, construction workers and health workers to Africa and South
East Asia for work in the field. Any help in salary and travel expenses will be appreciated.
My work fund moneys should be sent to the South Bypass Church of Christ. 2218
